About Simon Greetham
Simon strives to produce art works of elegant minimalist simplicity. He draws inspiration from his urban surroundings, and its serendipitous beauty. Simon's art is an abstract reflection of his personal experiences, the beauty and the chaos, the ‘unusual and the overlooked in the everyday’.
He is drawn to striking, vivid shapes and colours that evoke emotion and stimulate the senses. Time, with its eternal reach, fascinates, and infuses his art with a sense of enduring wonder and mystery. Nostalgia is the subtle whisper, an echo of memories that transcend time. It's the sepia-toned lens through which we view the past, a wistful homage to moments that linger in the corners of our minds. Yet, the nostalgia is not melancholic; it's a celebration of the beauty found in fleeting moments.
Simon’s artwork invites you to explore the boldness, embrace the simplicity, revel in the playfulness, and wander through the corridors of nostalgia. It's a journey into a world where every line, every shade, and every absence of detail is a deliberate choice, an invitation to connect with the essence of the human experience.
Artistic Journey
Simon’s painting process is a journey of self-discovery. “For me, painting is like a journey across an unknown land. An exploration, where I know what I hope to see. A journey where I can use the stars or whatever else to find my way, but one where only the general direction is known. Inevitably I take the wrong path sometimes or I discover I’m at a dead-end. It’s always a journey of learning regardless of whether there’s an immediate aesthetic pay-off”.
“I think the ‘journey’ analogy is useful in explaining the breadth of my work. What appears to the uninformed as tangential or unconnected to my recent work, for me seems perfectly logical. I see the thread; I understand the reason for the departure from the previous works. It’s part of the journey; eventually I re-join the road where I left off, and sometimes it allows me to re-join much further down the road”.
Simon loves the physical act of painting itself; the way a blank canvas can transform into a dynamic, visually arresting piece of art is truly magical. His passion for painting is an integral part of his artistic journey; it allows him to freely express innermost thoughts and feelings, and to communicate his vision through each brushstroke and stroke of colour.
A word on quality
“I love painting; everything about it, from preparing a canvas, to stretching and framing it. Throughout the process, quality is forefront in my mind. I’m very lucky that as well as being an artist, I am a qualified picture framer so I get to control quality at every stage of production. Collector satisfaction is very important to me, and that is only achieved by attention detail in every step of the process”. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any aspect of my work.
